Human Trafficking: An Invisible Global Challenge
According to International Labor Organization estimates, there are over 25 million victims of human trafficking around the world. Their labor is exploited for commercial and sexual activities across several industries, globally generating an estimated $150 billion in annual profits. It often goes unnoticed, making the crime almost invisible. The use of coercion, force, violence, manipulation, and deception makes human trafficking one of the most critical human rights challenges globally.
Enforcement Obstacles: Large Scale and Complex Networks
Human trafficking is challenging to combat as it is often difficult to identify and control. Given its dynamic supply-chain nature, it involves complex networks of individuals and organizations spread across multiple states and countries. This is where big data and analytics can play a role in combatting the issue.
